Pana Sankranti in Odisha, which marks the beginning of the new year. The day, also known as Maha Bishuba Sankranti, is celebrated with tremendous zeal in Odisha homes. Pana Sankranti is a festival steeped in tradition. The Maha Bishuba Sankranti celebrations are low-key this year, with strict Covid-19 protocols in place, due to the rapid increase in coronavirus cases. No large-scale pujas or ‘pana’ offerings are permitted in temples on Pana Sankranti, and only a few priests are permitted to participate in the rites.
