Best Happy Onam Wishes, Messages and Images

Onam is a traditional Hindu festival celebrated in the southern Indian state of Kerala. It is a ten-day festival that falls in the month of Chingam, which is the first month of the Malayalam calendar. Onam is a festival of great significance for the people of Kerala and is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fanfare.
The festival is celebrated to honor King Mahabali, who is believed to have ruled Kerala during the golden age of prosperity and equality. According to legend, King Mahabali was a just and fair ruler who took care of the needs of his subjects and ensured that they lived happy and contented life. However, the gods were jealous of his popularity and decided to banish him from the underworld.

Onam is celebrated to mark the homecoming of King Mahabali to Kerala. On the day of Onam, people decorate their homes with colorful flower arrangements called pookalam and prepare elaborate feasts called Onasadya, which consist of a variety of traditional dishes.
The main attraction of Onam is the snake boat race, which is held on the river Pamba. The race involves teams of rowers who compete against each other in long, narrow boats called chundan vallam. The teams are dressed in traditional attire and the race is accompanied by the beating of drums and the singing of folk songs.
In addition to the boat race, Onam is also marked by various cultural and traditional events such as folk dances, music concerts, and cultural programs. People also participate in traditional games such as tug of war, kabaddi, and kalaripayattu, which is a form of martial arts.

Overall, Onam is a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of Kerala and a time for people to come together and enjoy the festivities with their loved ones. It is a festival that brings joy and happiness to the people of Kerala and is an integral part of the state’s cultural identity.
