The Bengali New Year is called Poila Boishakh. It is on the first day of the Vaishakh month. On this day, people in Bengal greet each other on the new year by saying ‘Shubho Nobo Borso’. On this day people take out different tableaux in Bengal. Wake up in the morning, wear clean clothes and prepare different types of dishes.
The Bengali New Year (Poila Boishakh) is widely believed to be the day on which the Mughal emperor Akbar started the Bengali calendar in the 15th century.
